Kikam Technical Institute History

The Kikam Technical Institute is in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region

of Ghana along the Takoradi – Elubo highway between Asanta and Esiama.

1960

It was founded in February, 1960 by the late Abraham Acquah (A catechist of Kikam Methodist Church) with the name Acumen Commercial Technical School and situated in the heart of Kikam town.

1963

Upon release of land by the then chief of Kikam, Nana Kerma Bertu II, it was moved to its present site in 1963 and re-named Fathia Vocational Institute with three (3) teachers and ninety (90) students.

1965

In September, 1963 it was absorbed into the public system and its name changed to Kikam Technical Institute. It was under the administration of Takoradi Technical Institute, now Takoradi Technical University until 1965

2.57 SqKm

It is a day/boarding mixed institution with boys dominating in the enrolment. It has a land of 2.57 square kilometres with greater part of the land undeveloped

GES

Kikam Technical Institute operates under the Technical/Vocational Education division of the Ghana Educational Service.

OGCBP

The institute is one of the three institutions in the country that have been selected by the Government for the World Bank Oil and Gas Capacity Building Project (OGCBP)

The School Crest

The school crest is made up of yellow and black colors and the motto ‘JUDGE US BY OUR DEEDS’ gives an apt description of the practical skills given to the students that enables them to perform well in their chosen areas of work.

The Book symbolizes the theoretical knowledge acquired

The Spanner and Saw represent the practical skills acquired

The Coconut tree by the seaside indicates the richness of the Nzema people

The Stripped yellow and black indicate the school’s colors

Encouraging students to consider entrepreneurship as a career option

Staffing

Currently the teaching staff strength is seventy-four (74) seasoned graduates.

A large proportion of these graduates are examiners of the Technical Examination unit and National Board for Professional and Technicians Examination (NABPTEX) and WAEC

Non-teaching staff strength also stands at thirty-one (31) compromising office staff, kitchen staff, workshop attendants, accounting staff, security and laborers.
